Well I hope everyone’s October is going great!
The month of October has been an especially busy month for myself with midterms, BCITSA Council meetings, Mentor meetings, SIFE meetings, Thanksgiving (I hosted 17 family and friends it was amazing!) and of course I’m trying to get the motivation/inspiration to dress up for Halloween!
Even though I know October is a very busy month for everyone I would like to urge anyone and everyone to check out BCIT’s BIG INFO session that’s happening Wednesday Oct 24, 2012! There will be many kiosks with information on all the schools programs with many faculty and students in attendance to assist with any questions you might have. Also please come visit us at Aboriginal Services, which will be open from 5pm-8pm with Derek Joseph the Aboriginal Advisor. Derek will be dressed in his blue BCIT shirt to answer any questions and give you a tour of the beautiful facility, while sharing some of our culture, which makes Aboriginal Services so unique!

Well as I said earlier my October is very busy but one of the things that really helps keep me grounded and balanced is my connection with my family and friends. I explained in my profile that I’m originally from Whitehorse, Yukon and more specifically Kwanlin Dun First Nation. Since most of my family is situated up north except for my younger sister who I’m raising, it’s almost impossible to have family gatherings except for when we go home for Christmas. Although the beauty of living in the city is that I have my “Urban Family”. These are people who over the years I have developed a very strong bond and connection with and ultimately are a part of my family. So for this Thanksgiving I did a traditional potluck style dinner where my little sister and I cooked all the main food: Turkey, Ham, Roast Moose, Bannock (mmm soo good) and then all of the guests brought a traditional dish in representation of their heritage! Well the evening was a success we had 17 guests who brought an assortment of dishes that truly made the dinner and the whole night a celebration of good friends with many laughs! I think the flow of wine and punch helped too! How was your Thanksgiving! I would like to hear about your favorite dish(s)! Mmmm!
Well this is my last week for midterms and believe me I’m so thankful I’m done on Thursday! But since my life has been taken over by studying I haven’t even had a chance to think of a costume! My main group of friends all want to dress up as “Super Hero’s” but I’m thinking that it’ll be way over done this year since the success of the Avengers! Sooo hmmmm decisions decisions! Maybe I should channel some of my northern heritage and go as a polar bear! haha!! Well I better get on it a.s.a.p. cause Halloween is less than a week away! Any suggestions you have for a rad costume I’m all ears!
Well folks thats a wrap for now and remember to check out the BIG INFO session Wednesday October 24th, 2012 at BCIT Burnaby Campus!
Take care!
